Tank Scrap
Stuart Field
Stuart Field, next to the Armory, served many functions in the years of the Tank Scrap. It was the football field, the baseball field, the site of track and field events, and used for military drills. During the Tank Scrap it was a rallying point before a class marched to the Tank and the site of preliminary scraps. To make the event safer the faculty and student council, in 1908, agreed that the Scrap would begin at 7:00 PM and end at 7:30PM. Beginning with this event the final act was taking the defeated to Stuart Field where a large bonfire was lit and all the bleachers filled with spectators. The defeated were painted and required to perform stunts. After the chained were paraded around the fire some were required to perform dances, leap frog, a crawling race, the opponent's yell as well as Purdue yells, and other antics.
